Aluminum is one of the most critical engineering and manufacturing materials. It is light, durable and resists corrosion. It is also one of the best electrical conductors. It is used in planes, trains and automobiles as well as everyday items such as telephones and kitchen appliances. It can be alloyed with almost any metal to make it more durable or improve its properties.
The present invention relates to an improved method for producing aluminum pellets. The method is carried out at a cost significantly less than previously known methods of making aluminum pellets. The improved aluminum pellets have an improved surface that enables them to resist degradation under the action of hydrochloric acid and other chemical agents.
In the method of the present invention, the aluminum chips which are primarily waste products from aluminum works or fabricating plants are cleaned and dried where necessary and charged intermittently into a conventional hammer mill having perforations with a size in the range of about 1 to 10 millimeters. The hammer mill is rotated at a speed normal for the type of hammer mill being used and the aluminum chips are beaten together to form a finely divided aluminum powder which then forms into a pellet having an improved surface.
